SUMMARY:Santiago" concert by the "OTrente" chamber choir
DESCRIPTION:¡ Vamos a Santiago!\nSantiago” concert by the “OTrente” chamber choir\nUnder the direction of Louis Gal\nWe invite you to set off on the roads to Santiago de Compostela.\nThis pilgrimage will be punctuated by works of medieval and contemporary Spanish music\, from Monserrat’s vermeil book to the centerpiece of this program\, “Santiago” by Joby Talbot\, composed in 2015. \nWe look forward to seeing many of you on June 14 and 16 at the Basilique Sainte-Clotilde! \nThis program evokes the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. It is structured as a journey along the Way of St. James\, but also through the ages. \nThe program begins with a contemporary piece composed by Thierry Machuel\, the text of which was written by a prisoner during writing workshops\, and evokes the walk along life’s path. \nThe second piece is by an American composer\, Joby Talbot\, about the town of Roncesvalles\, with evocations of medieval Spain and texts about Santiago de Compostela. We then move on to Catalonia\, to Montserrat Abbey\, with rewritten melodies from the Livre Vermeil. We then move on to Cordoba\, playing pieces by Finnish composer Rautavaara\, who also evokes a path in the dark. \nWe’ll end our journey in Santiago de Compostela\, of course\, with a performance of Joby Talbot’s Santiago. \nThe program is therefore quite eclectic\, with pieces ranging from the 13th to the 21st century. \nSpecialization and light effects for this program to embody the journey present in the music. \nBook your tickets for June 14

SUMMARY:SFASJC 2023 photo competition
DESCRIPTION:\nThe Société française des Amis de St Jacques de Compostelle and the Centre d’Etudes Compostellanes are organizing a photo competition for paid-up members for the current year. The aim of the competition is to share and highlight the pilgrim’s experience of the pilgrimage route through the language of photography. \n\nThree themes take center stage: \n\n\nThe path and me (your perception of the path and your environment).\n\n\n\nCultural heritage (architecture\, monuments\, gastronomy\, festivals\, etc.)\n\n\n\nPilgrim’s winks (the unusual\, humor\, etc.)\n\n\nEach participant may submit a maximum of 3 photos in all categories (all photos in different categories\, or in the same category\, at the participant’s discretion). \n\nParticipation is free and without age limit. Jury members and their families are excluded. \n\nPhotographs must be sent by e-mail to the following address: sfasjc.concoursphoto@gmail.com \n\nAttachments must be in JPG format and between 800KB and 10MB in size. If photos are too large to send by e-mail\, they can be sent via WeTransfer or another sharing platform. \n\n\n\nEach photo must include: the entrant’s first and last names\, and the category for which the photo is submitted. Photos may be accompanied by a caption. \n\n\n\nEach participant names his or her photo files as follows: “T1(or T2 / or T3)_Name First name participant_Title of photo.jpg”. For example\, for a photo called “Mon chemin” submitted by Pascal Dumont in theme 1: “T1_Dumont Pascal_Mon chemin.jpg”. \n\n\n\nTo avoid any errors\, the members of the jury and the organizing committee are not authorized to name participants’ photos. \n\n\n\nAn acknowledgement of receipt will be sent to each participant by the end of the month in which it was sent at the latest. \n\n\n\nPhotos must be submitted between March 1\, 2023 and September 15\, 2023 inclusive. Entries received after this deadline will not be accepted. \n\n\n\nA special “Greeting Card” prize will be awarded to the photo selected for publication as the 2024 Greeting Card\, with the author’s name mentioned at the bottom of the image. \n\n\n\nThe jury reserves the right to award one or more additional Special Prizes. \n\n\n\nA People’s Choice Award will be presented by a vote of Internet users via the instagram account: https: //www.instagram.com/sfasjc_photo/ \n\n\n\nThe winner will be determined by the number of “likes” from Internet users\, whether or not they are SFASJC members. However\, in accordance with the competition rules\, the photos of participants who are SFASJC members will be published on Instagram. \n\n\n\nFeel free to download the complete rules HERE \n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Visit the Tour St Jacques
DESCRIPTION:Visit the Tour St Jacques\nTwo tour groups are scheduled\, the 1st at 2 pm and the 2nd at 3 pm. \nWhen you arrive at the AGM\, register by indicating your preferred time. Places are limited. \nThe cost of the visit is €12. You will be asked to pay €10 on registration. For members\, the company will cover the difference. \nFurther visits will be scheduled for spring 2023\, especially for those who are unable to visit on the day of the AGM. \nThis is an exceptional visit\, as the Tour St Jacques is currently closed to the public. \nThe Tour Saint-Jacques stands alone in the middle of the square that bears its name. Erected between 1509 and 1523\, the Tour Saint-Jacques is the only remnant of the 16th-century church of Saint-Jacques-de-la-Boucherie\, which was destroyed in 1797. \nThis sanctuary was the meeting and departure point on the via Turonensis (or Tours route) of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. \nThe statue of Blaise Pascal\, installed at the base of the tower\, reminds us that he repeated his barometric experiments in Puy-de-Dôme here. \nA statue of Saint Jacques le Majeur crowns the north-western corner of the platform\, which has housed a small weather station since 1891. It is part of the Montsouris Observatory. \nThe carved symbols of the four evangelists (lion\, bull\, eagle and man) appear in the corners. These statues were restored in the last century\, as were the gargoyles and eighteen statues of saints decorating the tower walls. \nTo mark the 70th anniversary of the Société Française des Amis de Saint-Jacques de Compostelle\, the commemorative plaque placed at the foot of the Tour Saint-Jacques in 1965 was restored by the City of Paris.
