SUMMARY:Round table - Why set out on a journey?
DESCRIPTION:As part of the “Des chemins et des hommes” 2022/2023 cycle\n\nA round-table discussion with Gilles Donada\, Marie-Édith Laval and Rémy Oudghiri\,\nmoderated by Frédéric Rochet\, Director of Forum104 \nTo the question “Why set out on a journey?”\, pilgrims give a wide variety of answers: the passage of a milestone\, the desire to take a break\, reconnecting with nature\, spiritual motivations\, and so on. \nGilles Donada (who has walked the Tours Way and the Arles Way to Compostela\, the Saint-Gilles Way\, the Way of Saint Ignatius Loyola and the Way of Saint Regis) and Marie-Edith Laval (Chemin de Compostelle\, Pilgrimage of the 88 Temples of Shikoku\, Way of Assisi\, Di qui passo Francesco\, Via francigena\, Stevenson Way) will describe the different reasons that led them to take to the road. \nAs for Rémy Oudghiri\, who explores ways of preserving one’s singularity in an increasingly uniform and technological world\, he will explain why he likes to walk aimlessly\, a practice to which he has dedicated his latest book. \nThis evening will be an opportunity for everyone to reflect on their own approach. \nThe Round Table will be followed by a book signing and a visit to the stands of the four organizing structures\naround a friendly drink. \n\nGilles Donada is a journalist in the religion department of La Croix\, where he is notably the author of “Voies de la prière”\, the podcast on the inner life. For several years\, he ran the Blog du marcheur for the weekly Le Pèlerin. \nMarie-Édith Laval is a speech therapist\, sophrologist and mindfulness meditation instructor. She also has a passion for traveling and walking. She is the author of Comme une feuille de thé à Shikoku (Le Passeur Éditeur\, 2015; Le Livre de poche\, 2016)\, in which she shares her adventure on Japan’s longest sacred path. \nRémy Oudghiri is a sociologist\, director of Sociovision and writer. He is the author of Petit éloge de la fuite hors du monde (Arléa\, 2017) and La société très secrète des marcheurs solitaires (PUF\, 2022). \nWith regard to the health situation\, the rules of social distancing and other rules in force at the time of the conference will be applied. \n\nReservations are recommended. SUMMARY:General Meeting of the French Society
DESCRIPTION:Dear friends \nYou are invited to attend the Ordinary Annual General Meeting of our association\nto be held on Saturday\, November 26\, 2022\nstarting at 10 a.m. \nat the association’s head office\, 8 bis rue Jean Bart 75006 Paris. \nAGM agenda\n\n10am: opening of the Annual General Meeting\nFinancial report presented by the treasurer\nGeneral secretary’s activity report\nChairman’s report\nPresentation of the Board’s plans for 2023\, followed by a debate on the company’s direction.\n12:15 pm: presentation of the Jacobean distinction to pilgrims who have obtained the Compostela in 2022 and who have made themselves known.\n12:30 pm: close of Annual General Meeting and pot de l’amitié\, packed lunch\n\nFollowing the AGM and lunch\, a private tour of the Tour St Jacques is organized. See details below. \nIf you are unable to attend this General Meeting\, you may be represented by another member of the association\nwith a valid power of attorney.\nWe remind you that\, in accordance with our Articles of Association\, only members who have paid their membership fees may take part in the vote.\nWe look forward to seeing many of you\, and to seeing you again on this occasion. Please accept\, dear friends\, our best regards. \n  \nPresident\nPatrice J.M. Bernard \n \nVisit the Tour St Jacques\nTwo tour groups are scheduled\, the 1st at 2 pm and the 2nd at 3 pm. \nWhen you arrive at the AGM\, register by indicating your preferred time. Places are limited. \nThe cost of the visit is €12. You will be asked to pay €10 on registration. For members\, the company will cover the difference. \nFurther visits will be scheduled for spring 2023\, especially for those who are unable to visit on the day of the AGM. \nThis is an exceptional visit\, as the Tour St Jacques is currently closed to the public. \nThe Tour Saint-Jacques stands alone in the middle of the square that bears its name. Erected between 1509 and 1523\, the Tour Saint-Jacques is the only remnant of the 16th-century church of Saint-Jacques-de-la-Boucherie\, which was destroyed in 1797. \nThis sanctuary was the meeting and departure point on the via Turonensis (or Tours route) of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. \nThe statue of Blaise Pascal\, installed at the base of the tower\, reminds us that he repeated his barometric experiments in Puy-de-Dôme here. \nA statue of Saint Jacques le Majeur crowns the north-western corner of the platform\, which has housed a small weather station since 1891. It is part of the Montsouris Observatory. \nThe carved symbols of the four evangelists (lion\, bull\, eagle and man) appear in the corners. These statues were restored in the last century\, as were the gargoyles and eighteen statues of saints decorating the tower walls. \nTo mark the 70th anniversary of the Société Française des Amis de Saint-Jacques de Compostelle\, the commemorative plaque placed at the foot of the Tour Saint-Jacques in 1965 was restored by the City of Paris.
