A thousand years to Compostela: The adventure of the roads, the epic of the pilgrims
As part of the “Des chemins et des hommes” series
Videoconference with Patrick Huchet
Hosted by Cécile Picco and Gaële de La Brosse, journalists with the weekly Le Pèlerin
A thousand years have passed from the birth of pilgrimage to its revival. Under what circumstances was it born, and how did it develop? Why does it continue to attract so many walkers? What differences are there between the motivations of pilgrims in the Middle Ages and those of the 21st century? Historian Patrick Huchet will answer these and other questions put to him live by Internet users.
Patrick Huchet studied history before turning to research and writing. Since 1996, he has been criss-crossing the Jacobean routes of France and Spain. He is the author of numerous books published by Éditions Ouest-France, including the best-selling Sur les chemins de Compostelle (1999), Les pèlerins de Compostelle. Mille ans d’histoire (2010) and Compostelle, le livre des merveilles (2014).
